Will We See a Future Increase in Death Taxes?
Congress has changed the estate and gift tax laws many times over the years. In recent years, the changes have favored reduced taxes, but this has not always been the case. During times of national crisis, there have been significant tax increases. Although President Trump recently signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, making permanent the current 40% tax rate and increasing the exemption to $15,000,000 starting in 2026, a future administration can always pass a different set of laws.
